July - Relationships

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

Gone Girl is a contemporary psychological thriller focusing on Nick and Amy Dunne and their dysfunctional relationship. Husband of the year, Nick becomes the prime murder suspect when perfectionist Amy disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary.  The first part of the book is told in the first person, alternately, by both Nick and Amy.  Nick's version is told from the present while Amy's takes the form of journal entries with both versions varying greatly. Gone Girl follows an intriging journey with the second part of the novel revealing both Nick and Amy have been less than truthful, with Nick having an affair and Amy's diary being a fake, intended to implicate Nick further in her disappearance. Murder, manipulation, and deceit make this a page turner from beginning to end as their real personas begin to emerge and the chilling truth is revealed.

Fabulous book. One of my favourites. It kept one guessing all the way through.
