If I Stay - Young Adult Customer Review

I was searching for a new book to read when I came across If I Stay. As soon as I had read the blurb, I immediately thought I have to read this book.

If I Stay is about a young girl called Mia who is in a deep coma after her and her family are in a very serious car accident. Even though Mia is in the coma her normal spirit or soul can see what is happening. Her soul roams the hospital trying to find out information on her family only to find that it is isn’t the best news. During her time in the hospital, there are a number of different flashbacks reflecting on her life. She is making the decision to either stay with her remaining friends and family or leave to be with her parents and teddy. During the flashbacks, you see her as a young child and in older years as a beautiful girl with big dreams. You see what she is like with her friends and family and also the development of her and Adam’s relationship.

There are many themes following the book. It is about making difficult choices that define the rest of your life. It is about choosing between life and death and which one you would be happier in. It is about growing up and moving on from people and places. But it is also about sacrifice from people you love the most.

Author, Gayle Forman has written a fabulous message in the book as well. Huffington Post has given us in detail what that message really is - You are loved, you are beautiful, and you have something to contribute to the world even though it doesn’t seem like it. Contribute your talents and passions to the community, don’t give up or duck out. You are wanted. You are needed. You are alive, live.

If I Stay has some of the best quotes that I have read in a while so I thought I would share them.
“Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you”
“I realize now that dying is easy. Living is hard.”
“Sometimes the best way to find out what you’re supposed to do is doing the thing you’re not supposed to do”
“Life is one fat, gigantic, stinking mess but that’s the beauty of it too.”
If I stay is now a major motion picture with lead Chloe Grace Moretz.
