Geraldine Brooks is an Australian born author and journalist who has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2006 for March, has produced New York Times Bestsellers with Caleb's Crossing and People of the Book and her very first novel Year of Wonders is an international bestseller and currently optioned for a major motion picture.
The Secret Chord is Brooks latest book portraying the life of the Old Testament King David. Brooks traces his journey from obscurity as a shepherd to fame as a soldier, from hero to traitor, from beloved king to murderous despot and into his remorseful and diminished dotage. The book is narrated by Natan, the prophet through whom God speaks to David. The other characters who tell of their own roles through Natan include David's opponents, advisors and sons, his mother and his wives. The story is based on scriptural sources which include all the well known stories of David and Goliath, harp playing, building his kingdom and the midnight watching of Bathsheba bathing.
Brooks has an amazing ability to bring historical characters to life and provide an enthralling read.
