Many of us are planning a holiday over the Christmas and New Year break. What a perfect time to catch up on your reading and then see the screen adaptation of your chosen novel! There are many books receiving the big screen treatment in 2017.
This week we review the novel Billy Lynn's long halftime walk by Ben Fountain.

Billy Lynn's Long Half-Time Walk is a perceptive satire set in Texas during America's war in Iraq. The novel explores the vast detachment between Americans at home and their military, fighting the war abroad.
This is Ben Fountain's debut novel, and it takes place in a single day. The story follows the surviving members of the heroic Bravo Squad on their "Victory Tour" from their arrival at Texas Stadium to their leaving at the end of the day.The squad are about to be honoured at the stadium, home ground of the Dallas Cowboys. There are half time celebrations, marching bands, cheerleaders, fireworks, football players, fans, Hollywood producers, alcohol and drugs.
You may ask how does 19 year old Billy, a silver star recipient and actual war hero fit into this adventure? And does his search for role models who can offer him wisdom and truth end positively?
You will have to read the book to discover the answers!
